Chuck Bush is the Founder of the LA Film Workshops and a twenty-eight year veteran of the entertainment industry. Mr. Bush began his career in 1983 working on the Warner Bros film, Fandango . Since then he has worked as a Writer, a Director, a Producer and an Editor of films, televison programs, music videos, documentaries and TV commercials. Chuck has won numerous awards for his work, but he is most proud of his work as a teacher. Mr. Bush's company was the employer partner of a million dollar grant awarded to Baton Rouge Community College to teach Film Technology. Chuck was the chief architect of that curriculum and he brings that same "know how" to LAFW, along with all of his original staff. "I have been given SO much in this business and LAFW is my way of giving back." Chuck Bush is still active in the film industry as a Writer, Producer and Director.

The love of lighting began for Phil Beard as a young man in New Orleans. He started his career not behind the camera but acting in local theatre in New Orleans. He sought fame in the bright lights of New York City. Once in New York, Phil became interested in the workings of a film set. He attended classes in film production at Hunter College. As his passion for the film business grew he sought work as a crew member. He worked on several films including Friday, The Thirteenth. But as many New Orleanians, the City called him home. He returned home in the early eighties and became a part of the growing film community first as a grip and now as a lighting gaffer for film and video.
Phil has during the last several years begun to teach the art of lighting to classes at BRCC in Baton Rouge and provided his expertise and teaching skills to a production NOLAW in conjunction with Tulane University in New Orleans.
Bartley Collier is himself an LAFW success story. Bartley studied under Mr. Henry in one of the many iterations of his training programs and has been working ever since. In 2007, Mr. Collier came on staff as an assistant instructor to Mr. Henry.
Bartley remains active as a Best Boy or Key Grip on films shot throughout south Louisiana, including Films in Motion's Wrong Side of Town and Burning Palms.

With the HDSLR revolution, filmmaking is becoming more about talent and less about expensive equipment. These cameras require far less light than their film counterparts. But no matter what type of camera you use, if the lighting is not right the shot won't look right! Lighting makes the diffrence between the amatuer and the professional. Lighting is about more than illumination, it is part of the storytelling mechanism of film! Now you can learn the basic principles of lighting in our Lighting Basics Workshop. This two-day class covers the basics of lighting, including different types of lights like tungsten, flourescent, LED and others. It also helps attendees discover how to enhance the film's narrative through light placement.
This LAFW event is designed to give participants an introduction to professional digital video cameras. The class begins on Friday evening with instruction that includes introduction to basic camera functions, principles of light and exposure and shot composition . Several different models of digital video cameras will be demonstrated in class. Saturday will begin with hands-on training that includes camera prep and setup, along with their tripods, picture monitors and more. The day will end with workshop participants taking the different video cameras around our campus and gaining experience getting different camera angles under indoor and outdoor conditions. Participants who own video cameras are invited to bring them.

This LAFW event is tailored to introduce participants to the theories and the practical aspects of non-linear editing. The Art of Editing Workshop is platform agnostic in that we will focus on the process of editing instead of the software. Though we will discuss certain programs including Avid, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier Pro and Sony Vegas because they are a part of the editing process; but they are just a means to an end. When the student understands editing as a craft, these programs are then just "tools" in the hands of the craftsman. Students will gain hands-on experience with these tools following a short classroom tutorial.
Video Production Bootcamp is brand new to LAFW. It is an intensive two day event featuring both lecture and "hands-on" training. We will discuss the principles of lighting, camera and location sound, then put those principles to use by setting up both a studio production and a location production from start to finish. Students will work in teams so that each one gets experience in lighting, camera and sound. Students will learn:
